Cervical spine imaging of adults following trauma

As indicated above, computed tomography (CT) is the preferred imaging technique when cervical spine injury is suspected following trauma. Plain radiographs are much less sensitive for identifying fracture compared with CT, but a cross-table lateral radiograph can be helpful in a hemodynamically unstable patient who cannot travel to CT imaging.
