Discitis lumbar spine and epidural abscess on T2-weighted MRI

A T2-weighted image of the lumbar spine (A) shows an epidural abscess (arrow) extending from the abnormal disc space between L1 and L2 (arrowhead). There is increased signal in the disc. Image B is a magnified view and shows the epidural abscess (arrow) and an abnormal, high intensity disc (arrowhead). The patient received an epidural injection two weeks prior to presentation.
