Tinea nigra

Tinea nigra
A well-demarcated, brown patch on the palm of a 3-year-old child with tinea nigra. The patch had been slowly expanding for 6 months. A potassium hydroxide preparation revealed grayish brown, branching hyphae, typical of tinea nigra that is caused by the dematiaceous fungus Phaeoannellomyces werneckii.
