This figure depicts a stage IIIB cancer. In stage IIIB cancer, the tumor has spread to lymph nodes on the other side of the mediastinum or to the lymph nodes above or behind the clavicle (collar bone). Stage IIIB also includes large tumors that have spread to the rib cage, heart, swallowing tube (called the esophagus), or trachea, in addition to involving the mediastinal lymph nodes.
