Monosodium urate crystals
Synovial fluid from a patient with acute gouty arthritis, when viewed with compensated polarized microscopy, reveals needle-shaped, negatively birefringent crystals. These monosodium urate crystals are bright yellow when aligned with the axis of the compensator.
