Pelvic radiograph: Anteroposterior view demonstrating osteopenia

This anteroposterior plain radiograph of the pelvis was obtained in an elder female patient with low back pain. The radiograph reveals diffuse osteopenia of the pelvic bones but no fracture. When symptoms persisted, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study was obtained that revealed an insufficiency fracture of the sacral ala.
