Platelet count and platelet survival in thrombocytopenic disorders
Platelet kinetic studies were performed in patients with a variety of hematologic conditions:
  • Bone marrow hypoplasia (Hypo)
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency (B12 def)
  • Congestive splenomegaly (Congest)
  • Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)
  • Chronic inflammation (Inflam)
  • Essential thrombocythemia (ET)

Left panel – The median platelet counts were greater than normal only in inflammatory conditions and ET.

Right panel – Platelet survival was significantly different from normal only in ITP.
