Osteonecrosis of the femoral head

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head
Radiograph of the pelvis and hips of a 41-year-old man who has received a cardiac transplant and who is on glucocorticoids. There is stage III (moderately late) avascular necrosis of both femoral heads manifested by increased density within each femoral head but no collapse (arrows). The increased density reflects marrow infarcts with calcification.
