Hemoglobin H inclusion bodies in RBCs stained with new methylene blue
Red cells from a patient with acquired Hb H disease were incubated in vitro with new methylene blue. Multiple "golf ball-like" inclusions are seen due to precipitation of Hb H. These inclusions form when beta globin tetramers are oxidized by the dye and precipitate.
Hb H: hemoglobin H (beta globin tetramers); MB: methylene blue.
