Megakaryocyte ploidy varies inversely with the platelet count
Mice were made thrombocytopenic by the injection of antiplatelet antibody or thrombocytotic by the transfusion of platelets and 48 hours later compared with normal animals. Changes in the platelet count were associated with inverse changes in bone marrow mean megakaryocyte ploidy (r = 0.98).
