The figure above reflects the manufacturer's recommendations (the author finds the insertion procedure is easier when the arm is extended). We identify an insertion site approximately three fingerbreadths (6 to 8 cm) superior and lateral to the medial epicondyle of the humerus and 3 to 5 cm (1.25 to 2 inches) posterior to the sulcus between the biceps and triceps muscles. The shaded region denoted by the arrow represents the sulcus, which should be avoided during Nexplanon insertion.
