String pull technique

String pull technique
One end of a 20-inch length of suture or umbilical tape is passed under the ring and pulled so that the two ends are of equal length. The finger and ring are lubricated with a water-soluble lubricant. The string is grasped 5 to 10 cm from the ring and pulled distally in a circular fashion along the axis of the finger, permitting the ring gradually to be removed.
