Creation of macroscopic magnetic moment in MRI

Excess of magnetic moments aligned parallel to the main magnetic field (B₀) creates a macroscopic magnetic moment (M₀). The random phases of the individual magnetic vectors cause cancellation of the transverse component of magnetization.
