The patient is placed in a prone position. The tendons of the biceps femoris (lateral) and the semitendinosus/semimembranosis (medial) muscles are identified. An insulated block needle is inserted at the midpoint between these tendons approximately 7 cm above the popliteal crease. The dashed line shows the level of the cross-sectional view.
