Parasternal long axis echocardiogram in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)

Parasternal long axis echocardiogram in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)
The parasternal view from a two-dimensional echocardiogram of a patient with a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy shows a very thick interventricular septum (IVS) and thickened mitral valve (MV) leaflets. During systole, there is systolic anterior movement of MV leaflet, which is in contact with the septum and obstructs left ventricular (LV) outflow.
Ao: aortic root; LV: left ventricle; LA: left atrium.
