Examination of DIP flexion and extension

To evaluate flexion (A) and extension (B) of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint, immobilize the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints of the finger being examined, and then have the patient actively flex and extend the DIP joint.
