Mobilization of the cervical esophagus and creation of an esophagostomy

For either the McKeown esophagectomy or transhiatal esophagectomy, the specimen is extracted from a left neck incision (A), the conduit is also brought up to the neck through this incision, and a stapled or hand-sewn anastomosis is completed through the left neck incision (B).
