In this longitudinal image, there is a very echogenic portion of fetal bowel seen in the mid abdomen that is as echodense as fetal bone. Both parents were known carriers of the F508del-CFTR cystic fibrosis mutation, and the newborn was found to be homozygous for this mutation.
