Lateral radiograph of the cervical spine shows a fracture through the C6 spinous process (arrow). Known as a "clay shoveler's fracture," an isolated fracture of one of the spinous processes of the lower cervical vertebrae is a stable injury that most often occurs with direct trauma to the spinous process.
