Debridement and primary repair of esophageal perforation
(A) depicts the exposed mucosa and muscular layer of the perforated esophagus. Devitalized tissue is sharply debrided.
(B) depicts the longitudinal extension of the muscular defect to completely expose the mucosal defect. The extension of the muscularis can be performed superior and inferior to the perforation.
(C) depicts the primary repair of the debrided esophageal perforation. The closure is performed in two layers.
