Fracture geometry refers to the orientation of the fracture to the long axis of the bone.
Fractures are classified as:
  • Transverse - perpendicular to long axis of bone
  • Oblique - tangential to long axis of bone
  • Spiral - tangential and spiraling around the shaft
  • Longitudinal - parallel to long axis of bone
  • A combination of two or more of the above
