Ventilatory response to exercise predicts survival in heart failure

Ventilatory response to exercise predicts survival in heart failure
Kaplan-Meier survival curves for an 18 month follow-up of patients with heart failure show a significant increase in survival in patients with a normal ventilatory response to exercise compared with those with a VE/VCO2 ratio (the ratio of minute ventilation and carbon dioxide production) above 34.
Data from: Chua TP, Ponikowski P, Harrington D, et al. J Am Coll Cardiol 1997; 29:1585.
