Flow cytometric measurement of neutrophil respiratory burst

Neutrophils stimulated with phorbol ester stimulation generate reactive oxygen radicals that cause oxidation of the fluorescent dye DHR 123. Defective oxidation is observed in individuals with CGD. Bimodal expression pattern of DHR 123 oxidation indicates carrier status.
