Traumatic neuroma

Traumatic neuroma
(A) Low-power micrograph of a traumatic neuroma of the superficial branch of the right median nerve. The thick arrow shows the parent nerve giving rise to the disorganized proliferation of axons, Schwann cells, and perineural cells within a collagenous stroma that makes up the neuroma. H&E stain, 40×.
(B) Higher-power micrograph demonstrating the haphazard arrangement of the nerve fiber bundles, both cut longitudinally (arrow) and in cross-section (arrowhead). As noted previously, the neuroma is collagen rich (dashed arrow). H&E stain, 200×.
