Uterine artery embolization for adenomyosis
35-year-old female with menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea. Sagittal fast spin-echo T2-weighted MR image obtained:
  • (A) Before embolization shows global uterine enlargement and diffuse adenomyosis. Junctional zone thickness (thick arrow) is 14 mm.
  • (B) Three months after embolization shows normal junctional zone thickness (arrow).
The patient's symptoms improved significantly after the procedure. Follow-up MR of the pelvis one year later showed no changes from the three-month follow-up study and no evidence of recurrence.
