Avulsion fracture of the lateral malleolus

Seen on this x-ray is a transverse avulsion fracture of the lateral malleolus (yellow arrow) distal to the joint line. The fracture fragment is larger than those typically associated with an avulsion fracture, suggesting the possibility of additional injuries and ankle instability.
