Pelvic organ prolapse
When the "pelvic floor" muscles relax, organs can drop down and bulge into the vagina. In each picture, the black arrow shows how the organs move.
  • (A) The organs are normal.
  • (B) Prolapse of the bladder (called a "cystocele" or "anterior vaginal wall prolapse").
  • (C) Prolapse of the rectum (called a "rectocele" or "posterior vaginal wall prolapse").
  • (D) Prolapse of the uterus (called uterine prolapse).
