Complete AV canal defect

Complete AV canal defect
There are different types of atrioventricular, or "AV," canal defects. A "complete" AV canal defect is the most severe form. It means that there is a large hole in the wall separating the right and left sides of the heart (A). Also, instead of 2 separate AV valves as in a normal heart (B), there is a single AV valve that usually does not close properly (C).
