Examination of subtalar motion using heel
This video shows one method for assessing subtalar joint motion. Stabilize the talus and ankle in neutral position and then passively evert (valgus stress) and invert (varus stress) the calcaneus. Normal eversion is about 5 degrees; normal inversion is about 20 degrees, as seen in the video clip.
