Local anesthetic injected appropriately below the fascia iliaca during femoral nerve block

Local anesthetic injected appropriately below the fascia iliaca during femoral nerve block

The femoral nerve lies deep to the fascia iliaca.

Movie (A) shows spread of local anesthetic below the fascia iliaca, as it should during femoral nerve block.

Movie (B) shows injection too shallow, with spread of local anesthetic superficial to fascia iliaca. In this case the needle tip should be repositioned before injecting further.

For further information refer to UpToDate content on femoral nerve block.
