Gene expression (transcription and translation)
Gene expression requires transcription and translation:
Transcription of DNA to produce mRNA occurs in the cell nucleus; the resulting mRNA is translocated into the cytoplasm via the nuclear pores.
Translation of mRNA into protein occurs in the cell cytoplasm; this is followed by post-translational processing.
