Giving a subcutaneous shot

Giving a subcutaneous shot
To give yourself a subcutaneous shot, wash your hands and clean the area where you will give the shot. Pinch 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) of skin. Insert the needle of the syringe into your skin. Your doctor will tell you the angle that you should use. Let go of the pinched skin, then slowly press the plunger of the syringe all of the way down. Carefully pull the needle out at the same angle that you put it in.
