Female predominance. In clinic, 60 to 80% female. In general population, twice as common in females.
Age of onset, usually 20 to 50 years.
Symptoms overlap:
  • Exhaustion
  • Post-exertional malaise
  • Widespread myalgias
  • Cognitive, sleep, and mood disturbances
Physical and laboratory examination unremarkable.
Common associated disorders:
  • Precipitating event, viral infection, including COVID-19, physical, emotional trauma
  • Autonomic nervous system dysfunction
  • Small fiber neuropathy
