Prone ventilation for relief of basilar atelectasis in the brain-dead donor
Prone ventilation for relief of basilar atelectasis in the brain-dead donor
(A) Before prone ventilation: bilateral lower lobe atelectasis with hypoxemia (PaO2/FiO2 = 105 mmHg). (B) After 12 hours of prone ventilation: resolution of atelectasis and hypoxemia, re-expansion of lower lobes (PaO2/FiO2 = 452 mmHg).
PaO2: arterial oxygen tension; FiO2: fraction of inspired oxygen.
