Selecting an approach for robotic ventral hernia repair
RS: Rives-Stoppa; TAR: transversus abdominis release; eTEP: extended totally extraperitoneal. * The transabdominal approach allows for direct visualization of the viscera and therefore is preferred when a difficult adhesiolysis or challenging reduction of hernia contents is anticipated. The eTEP approach is ideal for primary and concomitant epigastric, umbilical, and inguinal hernias. An alternative to RS retrorectus repair is robotic intraperitoneal mesh repair.
