Brain magnetic resonance imaging of an 18-year-old with focal cortical dysplasia

Brain magnetic resonance imaging of an 18-year-old with focal cortical dysplasia
18-year-old with focal epilepsy secondary to type IIB focal cortical dysplasia. Coronal T2-weighted (A) and transverse axial FLAIR (B) MRI images show hyperintense signal in white matter of right inferior temporal gyrus (arrows) that tapers from cortex to ventricular wall ("transmantle dysplasia"). Transverse axial T1-weighted image (C) shows loss of gray-white contrast (ie, blurred gray-white junction; circle).
FLAIR: fluid-attenuated inversion recovery; MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
