Transducer placement and needle insertion for axillary block
Transducer placement and needle insertion for axillary block
For ultrasound guided axillary block, place the transducer on the proximal arm at the level of the axilla, immediately caudal to the lateral border of the pectoralis major muscle and directly overlying the axillary artery. Orient the ultrasound beam superiorly (cephalad), perpendicular to the long axis of the humerus. Insert the block needle in plane with respect to the transducer. For further information refer to UpToDate content on the axillary block procedure.
