Hepatitis B virus liver biopsy

Liver biopsy from a patient with chronic hepatitis B virus infection shows ground glass hepatocytes (thick arrows). Ground glass cytoplasm is due to hyperplastic smooth endoplasmic reticulum filled with hepatitis B surface antigen.
