Creatinine trend in a patient with chronic kidney disease and superimposed bouts of acute or subacute injury

Note the gradual rise in average serum creatinine over many years (progressive chronic kidney disease) as well as stuttering course (ie, rise and fall) of individual creatinine values. A corresponding graph of estimated glomerular filtration rate would reveal a similar but inverse temporal trend.
