Management of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN)
Management of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN)
VaIN: vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia; HPV: human papillomavirus. * VaIN 2 is an intermediate lesion that is often reclassified as low-grade (VaIN 1) or high-grade (VaIN 3) upon repeat evaluation of the biopsy specimen. A multidisciplinary discussion between the treating surgeon and the pathologist may be helpful in such cases. ¶ Partial vaginectomy is required when VaIN is buried in posthysterectomy suture recesses. Total vaginectomy is performed only rarely and is required for extensive and persistent disease.
