Absence of lung sliding due to muscle contraction

Intercostal muscle contraction may be mistaken for lung sliding. The intercostal muscle contraction (panel B) causes the parietal pleura to move, but in a manner that is not similar to the shimmering to and fro movement of lung sliding.
