First web-space contracture in systemic sclerosis

This patient has a first web-space contracture associated with systemic sclerosis. The thumb MCP joint exhibits a hyperextension deformity, and the thumb IP joint exhibits a flexion deformity. The resultant contracture limits the patient's ability to bring the thumb out of the plane of the palm to grasp large objects.
