These ultrasound images of the right knee were obtained before (A and C) and after (B and D) the patient went on a training run. The ITB (indicated by hashmarks) increased in thickness from 1.9 mm before the run (A) to 2.5 mm after the run (B). Color-powered Doppler of the ITB itself ("X") does not show increased vascularity, but the adipose tissue ("a") deep to the ITB shows increased vascularity (D) after the training run.
