Continuous wave Doppler in mitral stenosis

Continuous wave Doppler in mitral stenosis
Continuous wave Doppler obtained across the mitral orifice from the apical window is demonstrated. By tracing the diastolic flow signal (blue dotted line), the mean diastolic gradient across the mitral valve can be obtained. In this example of a patient with mitral stenosis, the mean mitral inflow gradient is 10 mmHg.
MV: mitral valve; VTI: velocity time integral; Vmax: maximum velocity; Vmean: mean velocity; PG: pressure gradient.
