Balloon occlusion to control bleeding from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm

The figure shows deployment of an aortic occlusion balloon to control bleeding from a ruptured AAA. The balloon catheter is placed through an access sheath (white) to just above the site of rupture, which is often just below the renal arteries.
