Types of tracheobronchial injuries
The figures demonstrate typical locations for tracheobronchial injuries. Representative frequencies of these injuries are as follows:
(A) Transverse injury (74 percent): cervical (4 percent), thoracic (12 percent), RMB (25 percent), LMB (17 percent), lobar (16 percent).
(B) Longitudinal injury (18 percent): cervical (6.5 percent), thoracic (10 percent), RMB (1 percent), LMB (<0.5 percent). Complex injuries involving the carina (8 percent) involve both transverse and longitudinal injury patterns.
RMB: right main bronchus; LMB: left main bronchus.
