Fat accumulation and lipoatrophy in a patient with longstanding HIV infection
This abdominal CT scan was performed to evaluate nephrolithiasis (arrow). It demonstrates co-existing fat accumulation and lipoatrophy in a patient who had previously used an antiretroviral regimen that contained stavudine. There is an excessive amount of visceral fat (thick arrow) and an abnormally thin layer of subcutaneous fat (dashed arrow). Fat appears black on CT imaging.
