Bone marrow aspirate in a patient with vitamin B12 deficiency due to pernicious anemia
Typical megaloblastic changes consistent with nuclear-cytoplasmic dyssynchrony are shown. These include abnormal nuclear maturation in erythroid precursors, with variegated, finely granular chromatin (salt and pepper appearance, rather than the normal ground glass appearance) in a proerythroblast in (A) and a giant granulocyte precursor in (B). Original magnification ×100; Wright-Giemsa stain.
