The peripheral blood smear has findings consistent with splenectomy including spherocytes and Howell-Jolly bodies (arrow), as well as low-level parasitemia (dashed arrow). Refer to discussion of the causes of AIHA and ES in UpToDate for more information about this phenomenon.
