Rectus sheath coverage and ultrasound probe placement

For rectus sheath block, the ultrasound probe is placed above the umbilicus, at the edge of the rectus abdominus muscle, as shown by the rectangle in this graphic. The sensory block includes an oval periumbilical area when the block is performed bilaterally.
